Exploring Andalusia: From Granada to Ronda via Setenil de las Bodegas
After a few unforgettable nights in Granada, we set off on a scenic drive towards Ronda, a charming town nestled in the heart of Andalusia. The journey, though only a few hours, was made even more special by a spontaneous stop at Setenil de las Bodegas, a village unlike any other.
Setenil de las Bodegas is a picturesque town built into the cliffs. Even though the weather wasn’t quite on our side it didn’t diminish the town’s unique allure. Wandering the narrow streets beneath the looming cliffs, the sheer scale of the rocks and the way they cradled the town was awe-inspiring, making it a must-see destination for anyone exploring Andalusia.
We continued our journey, and soon enough, we arrived in Ronda. This beautiful town, perched high above a dramatic gorge, has long been a favorite for travelers seeking both history and natural beauty.
Upon arriving in Ronda, we met up with friends at a charming restaurant that boasted an incredible view of the iconic Puente Nuevo (New Bridge). With drinks in hand and tapas on the table, we marveled at the bridge's grandeur as it spans the dramatic El Tajo Gorge. The setting was perfect, even though the rain started to make an appearance.
To escape the downpour, we took refuge in the historic Parador de Ronda, a beautiful hotel housed in a former town hall. Here, we continued our indulgence in drinks, until we eventually made a run to another restaurant for dinner.
The next day, the sun graced us with its presence, and we decided to explore Ronda's stunning landscape by walking down to the bridge and along the winding paths that surround it. To call it "stunning" would be an understatement. The views of the gorge, the old town, and the surrounding countryside were absolutely breathtaking. Every corner we turned revealed another panoramic vista that made us pause and take it all in.
Ronda, with its mix of history, charm, and natural beauty, is truly one of Andalusia's gems. Though small in size, it’s a place that offers so much. One or two days is enough to soak in the highlights, but its exquisite atmosphere leaves you wanting to return. Ronda's beauty lingers long after you leave, making it a town that will always hold a special place in our hearts.
